Frankfort, KY – More then sixty employees from the Kentucky Department of Corrections took part in the UPS Plane Pull to raise money for Special Olympics Kentucky. The three teams helped raise a record $148,000. Corrections teams contributed approximately $4,500 to that total.

"This is another example of the caring and dedicated people we have working in the Corrections Department," says Lieutenant Governor, and Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary, Steve Pence. "I am proud of them for pitching in to help out those less fortunate."

Two co-ed teams and one all male team competed. Team KSR, from the Kentucky State Reformatory, competed in the co-ed division along with a team from The Division of Probation and Parole. A CERT (Corrections Emergency Response Team) team made up of members from across the state also participated. The CERT team and the team from Probation and Parole each came in fourth in their respective divisions. Both were only 0.3 seconds off the winning time.

Teams had to pull a 210,000 pound Boeing 757 jet twelve feet in the timed event.

"It takes a special group of people to work this hard, volunteer their time and come together on a weekend," says Corrections Commissioner John Rees. "These men and women deserve a special thank you, not only for what the did this past weekend, but for their hard work and dedication to their jobs that they show every day."

"The Division of Probation and Parole has been involved in events like this for years," says Jim Wagner, the Assistant Director of The Division of Probation and Parole. "We like to do things like the Plane Pull and the Polar Bear Plunge. It’s fun and for a great cause.

Several inmates pledged money to team members to help raise money for the Plane Pull.

Team members came from all across the state including Bell, Boyle, Daviess, Fayette, Jefferson, Lyon, Morgan and Muhlenberg Counties.
