FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky’s Department of Juvenile Justice has received the “Best of Kentucky” Award for Best Security Initiative for Real Time Digital Surveillance.  The award recognizes DJJ’s achievement by using technology to improve security for juveniles while under the Commonwealths care in our custodial facilities.

“I would like to commend DJJ Commissioner Bridget Brown and her staff for implementing such an advanced network video system,” said BG Norman E. Arflack, secretary of the Justice & public Safety Cabinet.  “By  upgrading the system, DJJ will continue to ensure a safe environment for the treatment and education of Kentucky’s youth, while providing increased accountability and protection of facility staff.”

The advanced network surveillance video system will provide for the efficient storage of video data, enhance analytical capabilities and dramatically improve the ability to access video data easily and quickly.  The IP-based network video system will eliminate the need for, long-term data storage on an individual facility basis and will create a standard of operations across all facilities.

“Video surveillance is a powerful preventative tool,” said Bridget Brown, commissioner of DJJ.  “This system will allow us to increase security and provide a higher level of care to all the youth in the facilities.”

DJJ will be honored at the Best of Kentucky Awards Ceremony during the Digital States Summit on April 24 at the Embassy Suites in Lexington.
