FRANKFORT, Ky. – Forensic Anthropologist Dr. Emily Craig has been selected as a 2007 recipient of the Medical College of Georgia’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.  She will receive the award on April 28 at the School of Allied Health banquet in Augusta, Georgia.

“This is an enormous honor and unexpected recognition for two interrelated career choices,” said Dr. Emily Craig, Forensic Anthropologist for the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office within the Justice & Public Safety Cabinet.  “After working 15 years as a medical illustrator I returned to school to become a forensic anthropologist. I often thought the staff at the Medical College of Georgia would think the skills I learned as an anatomist and medical illustrator had been neglected, but the truth is, I have only built upon them.”

“Without question, Dr. Craig is an expert in the field of forensic anthropology and this award is yet another distinguished honor she has received for her hard work and dedication,” said General Norman E. Arflack, secretary of the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.  “Kentucky is fortunate to have someone of her caliber within the Justice Cabinet.”

Dr. Craig has earned a world-wide reputation for her anatomical illustrations and 3-dimensional teaching models of the human musculoskeletal system and she has received numerous awards and honors.  She began her career with the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet in 1994.
