Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Bridget Skaggs Brown recently announced the accreditation of four juvenile justice facilities.  The juvenile justice facilities honored with accreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA) include McCracken Regional Juvenile Detention Center, Boyd Regional Juvenile Detention Center, Frankfort Group Home and the Cadet Leadership and Education Program.

The accreditation awards were presented as part of the Correctional Accreditation Managers Association (CAMA) Conference in Covington, Kentucky on April 15, 2007.  The accreditation program is a professional peer review process based on national standards addressing juvenile services, programs and operations.  The Kentucky juvenile facilities are inclusive of over 1,500 adult and juvenile correctional organizations across the nation currently involved in accreditation.

“Our staff remains focused on the program expectations that has enabled Kentucky to emerge as a leader among juvenile justice jurisdictions,” said Commissioner Brown.  “We view ACA accreditation as an essential element of our quality assurance efforts.” 

In presenting the awards, Gary Maynard, President of ACA, complimented each facility superintendent and their staff on their professional level of operation and their success in completing the accreditation process.  Although the ACA accreditation awards last for three years, each of the four juvenile justice programs will be subject to annual reviews conducted by department quality assurance monitors.
