Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner James Schomig today announced the promotion of Kathy Litteral to Deputy Warden of Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) in West Liberty.

“Kathy Litteral is a dedicated corrections professional who has an excellent work ethic.  She is one of our ‘up and coming’ professionals with a truly bright career in front of her,” said Schomig.  “She has the level of experience and leadership skills that Eastern requires in a deputy warden.”

Litteral began her career as a Classification and Treatment Officer at EKCC in March of 1991.  In 1993 she was promoted to a Unit Administrator I and in 1996 was promoted to Classification and Treatment Officer Supervisor.

Prior to her tenure with EKCC she worked as Child Support Case Manager for the Morgan County Attorney’s office, was a substitute teacher in Morgan County and owned and operated her own business.

Litteral is a member of the Cave Run Chapter of the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency (KCCD).  She holds a 1st degree black belt in karate (Tang Soo Do) and has obtained an orange belt in judo. She is a 1980 graduate of the University Of Kentucky where she earned a bachelors in psychology.  In addition, she has completed 24 hours of graduate work at Morehead State University. 

She and her husband David have a daughter, Hope, who is a junior at Morehead State University and a son, Joseph, who attends Morgan County Middle School. The Litterals reside in West Liberty.
