The Owensboro Police Department has established a basic training academy. The academy is based out of the Owensboro Police Department with multiple off-site training areas including a firing range and driving track. At least one basic training class will be conducted annually, with additional classes as needed.

On November 2, 2023, the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council voted to establish the Owensboro Police Department Basic Training Academy officially.
