In 2021, to support state governments in responding to the economic and public health impacts of COVID-19, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) was passed. State governments can use the funding in any way supporting government services.
The Justice and Public Safety Cabinet budget includes $10 million in this federal funding to offset reduced
Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding.
This funding will be used to fund projects that provide services to crime victims across the commonwealth. The funding will be directed towards programs that provide direct services for victims of crime, contribute to community violence deterrence, expand reentry services and recidivism reduction, advance community policing, ensure the prosecution of gun violence, improve law enforcement response to gun violence and enhance technology used by Kentucky's peace officers.
