Lateral Hiring Process

​​​​Lateral hiring process for currently Certified Peace Officers

  1. Verify Status and Standing of Lateral Applicant

  2. Verify Citizenship of the United States

  3. Obtain Copy of Valid Driver’s License

  4. Fingerprint via Identigo and Submit to the Kentucky State Police

  5. Run Criminal History Check to Verify no Felony Arrests

  6. Verify the Applicant can Possess a Firearm

  7. If Military - Obtain a Copy of Their DD-214 to Verify Honorable Discharge

  8. Code of Ethics

  9. Interview the Applicant

  10. If Applicant Worked as a Peace Officer in Another State - Verify no Revocation

  11. Contact the Previous Agency to Verify the Applicant did not Leave for Reasons Unfavorable to Employment

  12. Complete the POPS (Peace Officer Professional Standards) File

    • All 10 Standards of the Form D-1 via LETRS

  13. Agency Notifies KLEC of New Hire

    • Complete Forms D-1 and Form F via LETRS

  14. Complete all In-service Requirements within 1 Year of Hire Date

  15. Form ​D-1 Checklist - Use the POPS D-1 Checklist to ensure all required documents are in the applicant's POPS File.



Lateral hiring process for currently Certified Court Security Officer (CCSO)

  1. Verify Citizenship of the United States

  2. Obtain Copy of Valid Driver’s License

  3. Fingerprint and Submit to the Kentucky State Police

  4. Run Criminal History Check to Verify no Felony Arrests

  5. Verify the Applicant can Possess a Firearm

  6. If Military - Obtain a Copy of Their DD-214 to Verify Honorable Discharge

  7. Code of Ethics

  8. Interview the Applicant

    • Complete Form H-1 as Part of Interview Process

  9. If Applicant Worked as a Peace Officer in Another State - Verify no Revocation

  10. Contact the Previous Agency to Verify the Applicant did not Leave for Reasons Unfavorable to Employment

  11. Complete the POPS (Peace Officer Professional Standards) File

    • All 10 Standards of the Form D-1 via LETRS

  12. Agency Notifies KLEC of New Hire

    • Complete Forms D-1 and Form F via LETRS

  13. Complete all In-service Requirements within 1 Year of Hire Date

  14. Form​ D-1 Checklist - Use the CSO D-1 Checklist to ensure all required documents are in the applicant's CSO File.



Lateral hiring process for currently Certified Telecommunicator Professional Standards (TPS)

  1. Agency Notifies KLEC of New Hire

    • Complete Form F via LETRS

  2. Full Time Telecommunicators

    • Must Complete In-service within 1 Year of Hire Date

  3. Part Time Telecommunicators

    • No Training Required by Law but Recommended​
