​​​​​​​​​​​The Curriculum Committee is one of three committees of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council. The committee meets quarterly during the law enforcement council meetings in February, May, August and November. Curriculum must be submitted forty-five (45) days prior to the Council meeting date.

The Curriculum Committee provides the approval for all curriculum taught by academies or sponsored schools in the state of Kentucky for Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation Program Fund (KLEFPF) credit. The Committee gets its functions and powers promulgated from KRS 15.330 and from 503 KAR 1:090.

• Northwestern University Center for Public Safety

Recognized Curricula

• FBI Academy

• Southern Police Institue - Administrative Officer’s Course

• Northwestern Command School

• University of Tennessee Forensic Academy

No Outside Curriculum Submission Form needs to be submitted. These courses have ongoing approval.

Academy Sponsored

• Any outside course that an in-state academy is willing to submit on behalf of the outside agency. The academy will submit the required paperwork. Academy must complete the Form 31 - Curriculum Development, KLEC Form 8 - Request for Waivers Certification for consideration of approval. At the end of the class, the academy will submit the Form 68-1 Application for Training Credit.

College/University Affiliates

• Any course being taught by a regionally accredited college or university

• Non-online courses

Must complete Form 31 - Curriculum Development form for consideration of approval.

Other

• Any other outside entity may submit curriculum for consideration.

• A representative must present the curriculum at the quarterly council meetings.

• Must provide a schedule and location of courses to be taught.

• The Curriculum Committee Members will determine the following:
  
  

  • If the course is being taught by qualified instructors and,

  • If the training course is appropriate to the attending officer’s position and responsibilities; and

  • If they want to approve the course

Must complete Form 31 - Curriculum Development form for consideration of approval.

IADLEST (International Association of Directors Law Enforcement Standards Training) Approved

• Any non-online course that has been certified by IADLEST through the National Certification Program

• Non-online courses

Must be verified by the KLEC staff for consideration of approval.

Curriculum Development Forms

• Instructions for developing curriculum for all outside academies can be found in the Form 31 Instructions Sheet. The Form 31 - Curriculum Development form must be completed and turned into the KLEC office by the deadlines required for each quarterly Council meeting in order to have them considered for approval by the Curriculum Committee.

Receiving Credit for Training

• Complete the Form 68-1 Outside Training Credit and submit it to the KLEC office via fax at (859) 622-5943 or email at KLECS@ky.gov to get credit for outside training courses.
  

Application for In-Service Training Credit for College Courses

• Once every 3 years, in-service training credit can be given if you have completed college courses in accordance with 503 KAR 1:120. The student must fill out Form 6​8-2 and submit it along with a transcript to the KLEC office for approval.​
